Nothing screams Texas roadtrip more than staying at a Holiday Inn Express, waking up at 8 AM for a complimentary breakfast, and being greeted with the most ‘yeehaw’ waffle maker you’ve ever seen; a Texas shaped waffle maker.
The challenge:
I was commissioned by Kaylyn & Tyler, owners of an Air BnB in North Austin, to create and install an Austin themed wall mural that guests could take pictures by. We decided to channel the many murals in downtown Austin as inspiration by using funny phrases and weird illustrations.
The Process:
Rounds of sketches and mockups were shared before reaching the final design. Once It was approved and I had my dates set up, it was time to install. I used a portable projector to project the image onto the wall and it worked perfectly. After tracing the image on the wall, I used a print out for reference to paint.
Takeaways:
I am a team of one! And I only had one week to complete the project. It was crucial to have a schedule and stick by it. I also bought way too much paint, ha!
Austin, Texas has many memorable sights from the city skyline, bats emerging the SOCO bridge, and candy colored sunsets. This mural captures the beauty of this city and adds a bright pop of color to the living area. Who wouldn't want a selfie by this?
The challenge:
I was commissioned again by Kaylyn & Tyler, owners of Air BnB's in North Austin. Keeping with the City of Austin theme, we decided to focus on the beauty of the city. Due to limited wall space in the living room, this mural had to be placed above the couch. This made the set-up more tedious and required me to be precise about measurements and provide accurate mockups to my clients.
The Process:
Rounds of sketches and mockups were shared before reaching the final design. Once It was approved, had my dates set up and paint purchased, it was time to install. I used a portable projector to project the image onto the wall and it worked perfectly. After tracing the image on the wall, I used a print out for reference to paint.
Takeaways:
It crucial to have a space prepped before beginning to paint. Giving extra time for prep and making sure I have space to set up my projector would have eased the beginning of the process on this project. Sample paint sizes go such a long way - it's best to start there and purchase more if needed. (I have so many quarts of paint haha)

This is the first mural I did in a home that was not lived in yet! I big deal honestly, and I love how it turned out. Abstract art has always been intimidating to me, but the outcome made me confident that it’s something I can accomplish.
The challenge:
My dad had a unique challenge for me last winter: A mural in a home he is remodeling and then selling. Seems like a simple task, but the immediate question was, how do I create something appealing to many, yet complimentary to the design of the home?
The Process:
I started with a mood board that I based off of the interior designers initial ideas. There was a wallpaper that ended up getting nixed that had a really fun pattern on it. Instead of covering up an entire wall in that pattern, we decided to pull from that and mix some other ideas together to achieve a unique piece of wall art.
Takeaways:
Templates - A projector is not always the perfect solution for application! Lighting and space are huge factors when using a projector. I had to freehand one wall due to not being able to line up the projector nicely. Although, who can tell? ;)
Temperature - Paint does not like extreme weather conditions. Too hot or too cold will make for a not fun painting experience.
